Use of radio‐linked VHF technology to monitor neonate carnivores

Fine-scale monitoring of neonate mammals can provide important data about survival rates and cause-specific mortality. However, the VHF transmitters collars frequently used to monitor necessitate logistically intensive field efforts, often requiring personnel check on collared animals several times a day. We adapted technology that creates proximity link between GPS fitted adult expandable for use cougar kittens (Puma concolor). describe evaluate this system, which resulted in an 87% success rate tracking from ~5 weeks 6 months age.
